This week I wanted to show a quick before and after using ONLY Lightroom. I rarely use Photoshop anymore in basic processing, because Lightroom has become so powerful. Here is an example:

And Now For Something Completely Different …

Right now I’m very behind on posting to the blog! I’d really like to be able to update the blog more frequently, so I’m going to try to keep my posts short and sweet for now. For engagement sessions, I’m going to let the photos speak for themselves. Then, I’m going to need your help! I love getting to know my clients, and within a few hours I can learn a ton about their relationship and personalities. But I KNOW, you… their family and friends… know a ton more than I do!

My job is to tell the story about who they are and to show their relationship with photos. YOUR job is to leave a comment on the post and tell something else about the couple. It can be as simple as one word that describes them, or a whole story about one or both of them.

I’m going to run a new contest, and for any couple that gets 50 comments, I’ll give them a $50 gift certificate, and for every comment up to 100 I’ll add an extra dollar (so they can earn up to $100). This will be for the first 30 days after their post is made.

For wedding posts, I’m going to let the bride do the talking, and I’ll add my comments as needed. Hopefully this will make the posts more helpful for brides currently planning their weddings!

Every post will be different. Some posts I might not use words at all, and I’ll just post a few photos. Some posts might just be one photo. Some posts might have 100 photos. I want the blog to be an extension of our creative business.

All this might change next week. That’s the point. I’m still trying to figure this blog thing out. Hopefully you’ll stick around and keep checking in to see how we grow creatively!

Re-introducing :: Photoshop (and/or Lightroom) Friday!

It’s been a really long time since I’ve done a Photoshop Friday on the blog, so I think its about time to get it started again! When people ask how long it will take to get their photos back, I want to be able to give them a simple answer. Usually its about 2 weeks for a session and 4 weeks for a wedding. However, I want people to understand that Ashley and I review EACH image to make sure they fit our style and standards. As a business person, deadlines are important, but as an artist, it is important to take the time needed to make the work my own. I hope that Photoshop Friday will help people to understand why it takes time to work on their photos. I also hope it will be inspiration for other photographers and give ideas on things they can do to their images!

This week we’ll keep it simple. Here is a before and after from a recent session:

I developed the image in Lightroom to get the color balance that I want for my images, and decided to crop a little tighter because I thought the third person on the left was distracting. I also thought the Boars Head logo was very distracting and my attention kept being drawn there instead of into the subjects. I used the content aware healing brush in Photoshop to remove the logo.

Wedding in Columbia, SC Church and Reception at Downtown Marriott :: Shannon and Justin

If I had to describe Justin and Shannon’s wedding in 3 words, they would be: simple, classic and fun. Even though they pulled the wedding together in a really short time, I would have never known! Of course, they had some help from a pretty awesome wedding planner, Shannon Jones.

Pay careful attention to the reception photos. Even though they started with a simple ballroom at the Marriott in Columbia, they transformed it into a beautiful room with uplighting, modern furniture, and arrangements. It just goes to show that almost any space can be transformed into something totally beautiful.

Even when the setting is perfect, what really makes me remember a reception is the couple and all their friends. Relationships and the moments that we share with our friends and family are what memories are really made of!

Ally and Parker are such a fun couple. One of my favorite parts of the day was hanging out with the bridal party before the wedding. We also had a great time partying at their reception at the Hall at Senates End (Thanks Dave with Party Time DJ’s for keeping the party rockin’).
