Midtown Baptism

by Corey ~ October 19th, 2008

Tonight was the Midtown Baptism, and it was on top of a parking garage in downtown Columbia. I left my camera in the car, but when I saw the sun setting I had to run down and grab it for a few shots. God is doing some awesome things in Columbia through Midtown. Check out Midtown’s website here.

Look into my eye…

by Corey ~ October 17th, 2008

So, this is a picture Ashley took of me and I thought it would make a cool album spread. Just something I made when I was bored and I thought it looked cool.
I have some new updates coming to my blog this week, so be sure to keep checking back.

Fields of Faith - Ridgeview Highschool

by Corey ~ October 8th, 2008

Here are some pictures Ashley and I took at Fields of Faith at Ridgeview.

USC Irony

by Corey ~ October 7th, 2008

These flowers are planted all over the USC campus. I saw these on the USC Horseshoe while doing a portrait session.

Is it just me, or is this a really poor choice of flowers for USC? I suspect a Clemson fan landscaper.

Second Shooter Syndrome

by Corey ~ October 4th, 2008

Some people have been looking at my website recently and asking why I don’t have any images posted from weddings. I have been assisting an awesome professional photographer (Patty Hallman) as a second shooter since May. So far I’ve shot over 15 weddings as a second shooter.  Patty has taught me so many things about photography and she has been more than generous helping me get started with my own business.

As a second shooter, my responsibilities have included anything from carrying equipment to shooting every part of the wedding.  My main task as a second shooter is to capture details, and candid moments at a wedding.  I usually take care of details like the flowers, rings, church exterior, reception setup, cake, dancing shots, and other things like this.  I talked with Patty today and she has given me permission to use some of my images on my blog.  I’ll be posting some images sometime this month.

One thing I’ve decided as a second shooter is that I am not ALL about photojournalism.  I believe in capturing moments that happen at weddings.  There is no need to step in and ask someone to do something again when you can catch it the first time.  HOWEVER, if you wait on “moments” to happen at every wedding, you’ll end up with some weddings that have very few great images.

I was recently married, and I know that the photos that are my favorite include ones that were posed after the wedding.  Just because something is posed doesn’t mean it cant be a romantic moment.  Do you think someone who waited for moments to happen and stood back and watched as a “photojournalist” would have captured a moment like this…

Even though this was a posed moment, it was a very special time for Ashley and I on our wedding day.  I think a great wedding photographer will balance the photos that are posed with capturing candid moments of the day.  For example, Patty didn’t need to pose us to get this moment.  In fact, we didn’t even realize she was there.

If you want to hire me as your wedding photographer, I will be sure to capture special moments that happen on your wedding day.  However, I will also take the time to pose you to make sure we get the images you’ve always dreamed of having for your wedding.

USMC Mud Run Photos

by Corey ~ October 3rd, 2008

I was able to help take photos at the USMC Mud Run this year.  I shot for Pro Photo To Go, who has all the photos online here.  Several other photographers from PPSC came together to shoot the event.  We were each assigned an obsticle and ended up with a total of over 50,000 images.

I was assigned to the Zig Zag where the runners had to make their way through about 100 yards of chest high water.  Here are some of my favorite photos and some of the people I knew that were running.

My Wife is an Angel

by Corey ~ September 20th, 2008

she is soooo pretty. end of story.

I will probably be posting more soon… I’m trying to experiment with light and posed photography. The focus in this picture is meant to be on the ring with the rest of the image slightly blurred, but I think next time I’ll try a wider depth of field. Any other ideas? I want to try more things.

The Potter Siblings

by Corey ~ September 5th, 2008

My mom’s birthday was on August 31st so I wanted to take pictures of my siblings as a birthday present.  Here are a few of the shots of my little brothers and sister.

This first shot is one that Ashley took of all 4 of us.

MY WIFE!!!

by Corey ~ August 17th, 2008

I had about 2 minutes to take some pictures of my wife on my wedding day.  This was a really special time for me because I see things differently through my lens.  She was (and is) so beautiful!  I am so proud to call her my wife.

Testing New Logo

by Corey ~ July 30th, 2008

Well, I like this logo alot better… so maybe it will stick with me for a while.

I love this picture lol…

Third Test

by Corey ~ July 24th, 2008

What about this? I know the logo isn’t the best ever… but I pretty much suck at designing logos, and I can’t afford to pay anyone to do it right now.
I love Actions.
Hudson loves cake.

Testing Again

by Corey ~ July 24th, 2008

I am trying to decide how I’ll put borders on my images, so this a test with an action I made to give a 20px white border with a 2px black stroke. How does this look?

My First Post (for testing)

by Corey ~ July 23rd, 2008

I remember when I first got my Canon Digital Rebel in the mail.  I was so excited… I took it out… put it together… and there was no CF card.  I went to the store and bought a 1 gig card (which back then cost like 70 bucks) and came back to play with my new toy.  Since I’m testing a post on the blog… I thought I’d test with the first picture I ever took with a DSLR… so enjoy. lol. And yes… thats a batarang… I made it myself and it really works (I’m not a nerd at all)!
